چکیده
We investigated whether prophylactic percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is used effectively for patients treated with definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) and the predictors of need PEG. 326 laryngeal, oropharyngeal or hypopharyngeal cancers were retrospectively reviewed. The PEG tube use group had more favorable results than total parenteral nutrition nasogastric groups in terms rate serum albumin loss, incidence severe fever aspiration pneumonia, CCRT completion hospitalization period. However, it was inferior to oral intake. Analysis relative risk requiring enteral revealed that performance status (PS) 2, primary site (supraglottis, oropharynx, hypopharynx), N3 disease, cisplatin nutritional support. Prophylactic effective especially required PS2 cancer.

Risk of Esophageal Cancer Following Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy in Head and Neck Cancer Patients
Esophageal cancers account for majority of synchronous or metachronous head and neck cancers. This study examined the risk of esophageal cancer following percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) in head and neck cancer patients using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. From 1997 to 2010, we identified and analyzed 1851 PEG patients and 3702 sex-, age-, and index date-matche...

BACKGROUND We compared dependence rates, complications, toxicities, and costs associated with prophylactic versus reactive percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube placement. METHODS One hundred ninety-three patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS The 1-year and 2-year actuari...

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Compare long-term percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube dependence, stricture rate, and weight loss in patients receiving a prophylactic gastrostomy tube with those who initially rely on oral intake during chemoradiation for head and neck cancer. Also, to determine what other patient and treatment characteristics influence development of long-term severe dysphagia...
متن کاملStudy of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy Outcomes
Background and Objective: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is the technique of choice for providing enteral access to patients who require long-term enteral nutrition. This study was performed to evaluate the outcomes and complications of PEG. Materials and Methods: In this semi-experimental study, 77 patients (45 men, 32 women; age mean: 58.9±19.7 years, Min: 14 years, Max: 89 Years)...
